Building strength

Pilates, Yoga and Tai Chi might be good for other things but not for pure overall strength. In order to train to develop strength. Doing a 5x5 routine as previously suggested is normally the way to start. I am an avid follower of the stronglifts 5x5 routine.

Alwin looks interesting...

Today I recycled my old computer monitor. I thought the council would collect it for free, but they don't so I had to take it to the recycling centre myself.

It's an old-fashioned monitor, a huge box-shaped thing and it weighed a TON! Or it felt like it... I carried it along the street from the train station and although my arms were not getting tired my back was protesting madly.

Maybe I need to work on my core muscles. Pilates, yoga, tai chi maybe?

I do Alwin Cosgrove's 5x5. Its not much of a mass builder but stength is.

What exercises do you do to build up your strength?

Of course, for wrestling you need to be strong all over your body, and wrestling is itself excellent (imo the best) form of all-over exercise (for resistance AND cardio, simultaneously)... but it is also good to work on specific areas.

I cycle so I let that take care of my lower body. I also swim, and both of those are good for endurance/stamina. I also do press-ups, sit-ups and dips.

The techniqwue for the dips is recommended by Physical (http://www.allfighters.info/users/Physical) - and he should know about building big arms! I use two chairs and my bed, holding myself up by my hands on the chairs with my feet on the bed. For all of the above I do 100 reps (25 x 4 sets).

It gives me a nice warm glow in my triceps :-)
