We have some openings in the wrestling group at Grove Park.
We need three enthusiastic London area based wrestlers light to light-heavy in weight who want to get involved in coaching, training and practice. Please contact me directly here if you want more info.
Coaching is free and you'll learn loads as well as getting in plenty of singles and tag-team bouts. Experience is not required but enthusiasm and regular attendance is.
Ben has packed the pro-wrestling coaching with us now and it has left us in a bit of a lurch as we seriously need to get more guys involved. The group will close otherwise.
If there are guys reading this who want to get involved in pro-style Wrestling coaching and practice then please get in touch ASAP.
Your current standard is not important. We just need regularity and enthusiasm.q
That’s a real shame - hope you can get the help you need to keep the sessions going.
If I was based anyway near London I would jump at the chance to be there - but based in Glasgow rather scuppers ongoing attendance!
Well up for learning more moves and happy to offer myself up for punishment by any Heels - my commitments up here may change in time so a prolonged stay elsewhere in the UK may be possible in the future.
The best thing to do is form your own local Wrestling branch by getting a few eager and willing guys together.
Once you have a few wrestlers GENUINELY interested then you need to sort out a venue. That can be anywhere where the guys feel comfortable.
If you can also find someone who has known coaching skills then that would help things a lot but you don’t need absolutely a coach to enjoy small group Wrestling.
Numbers will always be small but that is not a bad thing if guys that you do have are keen.
I’ve been running coaching groups of one sort or another for decades in various parts of Scotland and England. My experience would suggest that if you get a hundred guys contacting you then only eight or ten of them will actually step on the mats and about half of them will keep coming to regular sessions. That figure of 5% and less will seem a bit low but it is an accurate assessment based on decades of experience.
What is important is that those who do stick to the group will be good Wrestling mates and in time each of them will individually bring other guys in and hopefully they will stick with it too. You will also get visiting wrestlers from wider parts dropping or body slamming their way by your group. Those visitors are valuable contacts and they help spread good word about your group.
When I ran the Wrestling groups in Glasgow and Edinburgh the guys used to stay with me and in addition to loads of wrestling matches with myself, Imran, John and Patrick in Glasgow and the other guys from Edinburgh; they would also get a short Highland tour and more than once I wrestled visiting Americans and Canadians and even English people at the sides of desolate Highland roads and even did a wrestling match in a kilt with a study guy from Minnesota near Arthur’s Seat and the great escarpment near the castle in Edinburgh.
So basically I’m saying you can wrestle in a field and near local geographical landmarks with visitors if you cannot get a location elsewhere. Everything is an act of will and wrestlers (the good ones) should have that in plenty.
Hope this short note will encourage yourself and other wrestlers to set up local Wrestling scenes directly and not rely TOO heavily on websites for Wrestling action.
This is just a note to remind guys here and guys interested in doing and learning weekly pro-style wrestling that the TUESDAY 2-4 or 5pm sessions will be carrying on this year.
We only have room for a maximum of six guys so if you are interested please message me here. Ideally we need wrestlers who can commit to weekly training but have no problem with guys dropping in and out if it is easier for their work schedules.
Gear is trunks and wrestling boots or light flat-soled shoes.
Coaching is a wide mixture of moves and holds chained together to form particular spots of tasty and convincing wrestling action and involves considerable movement around the ring and includes the use of corners and ropes however it is not acrobatic wrestling but does focus on the basics and safe running of the overall training.
If you are specifically a jobber or a heel or can flit between both then you'd be eagerly welcomed.
A second course of submission style coaching will be launched from Grove Park on Sundays beginning later in January but we are looking for specific types of guy and a very specific wrestling attitude for these sessions and will not suit all.
There is no charge for any of these sessions however you are welcome to donate to the matroom fund which will have us fitting in the new ring floor cover and ring boards this month. The current floor has joyfully taken very mighty and sweatily orgasmic testosterone-loaded beatings over the years.
The wrestling ring at Grove Park is open to all wrestlers who want to make use of it for private bouts in a safe and secure and hygienic wrestling space.
I turned up for it with no experience and was able to get involved straight away. Not only is Iain incredibly knowledgeable, he is also very flexible: managing to give me what I needed and keep the more experienced guys happy as well.
We have learnt loads of moves, learnt how to link them together and learnt how to counter them. We have also managed to slip many of our favourites into the training programme.
Tuesdays have got me hooked on pro wrestling and are definitely my favourite day of the week now!
Not sure there is such a thing in this country, especially for guys our age; you might find individuals who could help you out (not me!), maybe the Spotland Scrappers lads in Manchester might be up for paid training.

2017-08-05 13:04I'm starting a pro-style wrestling training and practice group hosting at the Grove Park wrestling ring.
At each session you will learn a few individual moves and holds which you will then string together in various permutations to form a chain of holds.
Message your interest directly to me here please.
Gear is trunks and boots|training shoes or trunks and barefoot.

2017-07-24 10:46We used to do a pro-wrestling course at the Grove Park Wrestling Matroom run by Iain Scott. Before the ring went in.
It was about six months long and very detailed and only a few guys were into it at the time.
There are a lot more pro-stylers in London now but getting guys to commit to regular sessions is very difficult.
I'd happily host and run such a course for four to six regular guys if there was enough genuine and sustained interest.
