It's Monday morning and time for my weekly update. I was dedicated last week and went to the gym each weekday. I have to do it in the morning as I worry that I will make excuses not to do it the longer the day goes on. I do have a leisurely coffee ☕️ first though.

I slightly increased the amounts of weights I do (free weights and Nautilus) last week. I don't think I'm going to put the fear into any Olympians but I've been told and agree it's better to start lighter and work my way up. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are weight days. I do cardio every day, though I drop the elliptical on my weight days. For some reason, that machine kills me. I do the treadmill and spinner every weekday though.

I've already rambled more than I thought I would when I started this so let's get to today's readings:

Weight: 178.0 lbs (same as last week)
Body Fat: 30.0% (down from 32.7% last week)

I'm not bothered by the weight as I am trying to improve my upper body strength and I did increase the weights slightly last week. I am happy that the body fat % moved in the right direction this week. Again, I don't totally trust my scale's measurements (and have been told that they can vary wildly from scale to scale) when it comes to body fat % but I was happy with the downward movement.

Well done.

In terms of the scales, if you always use the same scales then a y variation from a true figure should be constant (I'm prepared to be corrected on that).

If you were using one scale at home and another at the gym it could fluctuate wildly.

I'm sure you are doing all the right stuff.

I just wish I was.

Thanks very much. I truly believe I'm on the right path, even though there's not a huge change in the numbers or what I see in pics. I'm determined to carry on. It was just time for me to make changes for myself.

I’m really enjoying your blogs and weekly update - they’re certainly not rambling and alway an interesting read so please keep it up!

I’m so proud of you for sticking to your routine and your dedication - well done!!

Sounds like you have the right routine that works for you - indeed, building up slowly is the right way to go, in a few months you’ll be surprised when you look back on the weights etc you started with!

Your body weight is stable - that’s a good thing! and your body fat is lower - that’s a good thing too!!

It’s true that you shouldn’t be too bothered about the actual weight it’s how you feel inside that counts. Are you feeling more energised these days since you started your routine?

Always use the same set of scales and weigh yourself the same time of the day each week - that’s the safest bet if the scales are dodgy ;)

Friends and family all know that I have a lot of problems sending short emails or letters. My best friend calls my emails "epics".

The scale is very accurate and stable when it comes to weight. I'm always amazed at how the body fat % readings can sometimes vary so much within a few seconds of each other.

I'm still waiting to get this extra burst of energy. I know I would be able to go at it harder and longer during a match and I can certainly walk long distances now without tiring but I wake up in the morning feeling tired. I have no trouble getting a good night's sleep though!
